BookCrossing
Commit random acts of literacy! Read & Release at http://www.bookcrossing.com/friend/mickiemck
Interesting website. If you are familiar with wheresgeorge.com, this is the same concept only using books instead of currency. I'm not hooked on this like I am with BookMooch.com, but it's neat to check out. Basically each book gets a unique identifier that tracks the book as it gets passed along from person to person. Then you can see where the book has been. Some folks use this in conjunction with BookMooch (which is how I got turned on to it).

Pets Alive
As a pet lover & web junkie, I get a lot of emails from various animal organizations. Many of those are rescue related. Today I received one that particularly touched me. A woman who had tried hard to help animals passed away and left behind a rescue organization that is struggling without her leadership. With five pets of my own, I've often worried about what would happen to them if something happened to us. An excerpt from the email follows.
The Best Friends rapid response team is in action again. This time it’s at a sanctuary outside of New York City. Full details, and how you can help, are at network.bestfriends.org/petsalive.
Sara Whalen, the founder of Pets Alive, was a one-woman band with a heart of gold, a will of iron, more than 500 homeless pets and other animals, a small local staff – and no succession plan! She passed away a few weeks ago after a bout with cancer, leaving the animals in an emergency.
Things had deteriorated badly during her illness, and shortly before the end, members of the board asked Best Friends if we could come to the rescue. Since then, we’ve had a team on the ground – animal care staff, emergency veterinary support, and sanctuary maintenance – all working ‘round the clock.

Go ahead and take your best shot,
Let 'er rip, give it all you've got,
I'm laid out on the floor, but I've been here before,
I may stumble, yeah I might fall,
Only human aren't we all? I might lose my way, but hear me when i say,
I will stand back up,
You'll know just the moment when ive have enough,
Sometimes im afraid, and i dont feel that tough,
But I'll stand back up,
